In-depth Catchbox Plus setup example

A lecture hall setup

Consider a large lecture hall utilizing the Plus system fully. Their setup incorporates four Catchbox microphones:

  • Two Cube mics are used for student involvement and rapid-fire discussions
  • a Clip mic is worn by the professor for consistent audio quality during lectures
  • a Stick mic for student presentations

This lecture hall is set up for hybrid learning, with remote participants joining via video conferencing platform. They can listen to the lecture and actively participate in discussions. Presenting students also want to broadcast an audio recording during their presentation. The setup also accommodates students using assistive listening devices, ensuring accessibility for all participants.

Given the size of the auditorium, voice lift is necessary to ensure clear audio throughout the space. Additionally, the system integrates with another microphone device in the room that uses Dante® for audio output.

To bring this all together, the Hub DSP receiver connects to a computer running the main video conferencing platform. The AUX input allows for easy integration of student audio recordings, sending the sound to both in-room and remote participants.

To amplify the in-room microphones and hear the remote participants, loudspeakers can be connected to the mixed balanced 3-pin connector. To send audio to an assistive listening transmitter, the RCA connector can be used.

One of the system's strengths is the ability to customize audio routing. For instance, it's possible to send only the Catchbox microphone audio to the assistive listening device, if needed. This level of control allows for custom audio setups.

With the integration of the external Dante®-enabled microphone system and the Hub's network connection, you can also use the Catchbox Control and monitoring center. It allows to remotely monitor microphone statuses, battery levels, ensure that all mics are properly placed on their respective chargers at the end of the day etc.

In this scenario, the Catchbox Hub serves as the central audio management point, gathering all inputs and distributing high-quality audio to multiple outputs. Remote participants benefit from crisp clear audio without ambient noise or volume inconsistencies, ensuring speech intelligibility and increasing comprehension. In-room participants benefit from voice lift and can be confident that they won't encounter any audio issues such as loudspeaker feedback.
