Mute at Pickup Explained

💡 Mute at Pickup is a setting that determines if the Clip/Stick mic stays silent or goes live the moment it’s picked up from the charging dock.

Important: This feature only applies to Clip and Stick microphones. It doesn’t apply to the Cube.

Where on the Hub can you find this?

You can find this feature in the input settings for your presenter microphones:
IN -> CLIP | STICK -> INPUT SETTINGS -> MUTE AT PICKUP

Note: This feature is only visible and usable if the Mute Button setting is set to Enabled. If the button is Disabled, Mute at Pickup will disappear from the menu.

What is it for and why?

By default, the Plus system is designed for a pick up and talk experience. Mics unmute automatically as soon as they leave the charger so the presenter doesn't need to press any buttons.

Mute at Pickup allows you to disable that automation if your specific environment requires a manual start only.

Why would you need it?

❗Changing this setting is generally considered the last resort for a setup of rather specific requirements.

If set to Enabled the mic stays muted after being picked up. The presenter must manually press the button on the mic to go live.

If set to Disabled (Default) the mic unmutes automatically upon pickup.

When is it Useful?

Important Disclaimer: All of the situations below can be handled much more easily by simply pressing the Mute button on the mic manually. A professor or presenter can pick up the mic, press the button to mute themselves, and press it again when they’re ready to talk.
Toggling this in the Hub settings is rarely necessary.

Higher Education
For professors who put on their Clip mic while setting up or chatting with students before a lecture.

Corporate All-Hands & Training
Useful when a presenter takes the Clip/Stick mic from the dock but for instance needs to wait for a video intro to finish or for their turn to speak.

Hybrid Meeting Prep
Prevents remote participants on Zoom or Teams from hearing off-camera logistical discussions in the room before the meeting formally starts.

Factory/Default setting

Disabled.

We ship the system with this feature Disabled because it provides the most intuitive user experience. Most clients agree that the default automation works perfectly for their daily needs.

If you enable this feature, remember to brief your speakers! Because the Plus system mics usually work without the need to press any buttons, the presenter might forget they’re muted.

Note: Remember, if you disable the Mute Button feature in the Hub settings, Mute at Pickup will disappear. You cannot tell a mic to stay muted if you’ve disabled the button the user needs to unmute it.
