IP Mode Explained

💡 IP Mode determines how your Hub receives its address on a local network. Just like a computer or a smartphone connecting to Wi-Fi, the Hub needs an IP address to communicate with other devices, such as a computer for remote management or a Dante network.

Where on the Hub can you find this?

Global Settings -> Network -> IP Mode

What is it for and why?

An IP address is like a digital home address. Without it, the postman (the network) doesn't know where to deliver data packages.

Dynamic (DHCP): The network automatically assigns an address to the Hub. You don't have to type anything in, the system takes care of it.

Static: You manually type in a specific, permanent address for the Hub.

Why would you need it?

Dynamic (Default): This is the easiest way to get up and running. If you’re plugging the Hub into a standard office or home network, the DHCP server will give the Hub an address automatically, and it will just work.

Static: This is used by IT professionals who want total control. If the Hub is permanently mounted in an equipment rack, you might want to ensure the address never changes, making it easier to find and manage the device remotely at any time.

When is it Useful?

In standard setups stick with Dynamic. It’s the protocol used by almost all modern networks to ensure devices can talk to each other without manual configuration.

In professional IT environments - Static. It’s best when you have a dedicated AV network and you need the Hub to stay at a fixed location so your management software always knows where to find it.

Factory/Default setting

Dynamic.

If you are not an IT professional or a network admin, leave this on Dynamic. Changing to Static without knowing the correct network parameters can make the Hub invisible to your network, requiring a system reset to find it again.

🔦 Simple Analogy

Imagine the Hub is a new house in a growing neighborhood. Dynamic mode is like the city planning office automatically assigning you a house number so the mail starts arriving immediately.
Static mode is like you deciding exactly what your house number should be and registering it yourself.
