How to minimize Audio Latency?

If you're playing audio from Catchbox mics through loudspeakers connected to your computer, you might notice a slight delay between speaking and hearing the sound.

This delay, known as audio latency, happens because the audio signal takes time to be processed by the computer before coming out of the speakers.

With the Hub DSP receiver, we can minimize this latency.

Recommendations based on your use case

For video conferencing (remote participants only): If you're using the Catchbox Plus system for video conferencing and want the mic output to be heard by online attendees only:

  • Connect the Hub DSP receiver to your computer using the USB-C output.
  • In your computer's audio settings, select the Hub as both the audio input and output device.
  • In the Hub's Global Settings menu, set the USB device mode to "Speakerphone mode". This allows for two-way communication, which is necessary for video conferencing.
For local events (in-room audio): If you're hosting a local event and need the sound on loudspeakers:
  • Use the Hub's balanced mixed 3-pin or unbalanced RCA outputs to connect directly to your sound system or powered speakers.
  • This direct connection bypasses computer processing, significantly reducing latency.

For hybrid setups (both in-room and remote participants):

  • Use the Hub's multiple outputs simultaneously.
  • Connect the USB-C output to your computer for the video conferencing software.
  • Use the balanced mixed 3-pin or RCA outputs for your local sound system.
  • Adjust the Voice Lift Level for the local outputs to balance in-room audio with minimal latency.
