FLEX Ports and Channel Cloning Explained

The FLEX ports are physical 3-pin connectors located on the back of your Hub. You’ll have either four ports for the 4-channel or two ports for the 2-channel Hub model. Because physical space is limited, these ports are designed to be multipurpose. They allow you to expand your system by adding extra sound sources (Inputs) or extra destinations (Outputs) depending on your specific room setup.

Where on the Hub can you find this?

FLEX Mode (Global)
This is the master switch where you decide if all four ports act as Inputs or Outputs. GLOBAL SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -> FLEX MODE

Input Settings
If set to Input, FLEX appears in the "IN" section.
IN -> Other -> FLEX 1-4 -> FLEX Input Settings

Output and Channel Cloning Settings
If set to Output, FLEX appears in the "OUT" section.
OUT -> FLEX -> FLEX 1-4

FLEX as Inputs: Bringing Sound IN

When set to Input mode, you can bring up to four external analog sound sources into the Catchbox system. This is perfect for adding 3rd-party microphones or media players.

FLEX Input Settings

  1. Gain Adjustment: Just like with your Catchbox mics, you can adjust the signal strength of the incoming audio from -20dB to +20dB. This ensures your external media player or 3rd-party mic matches the volume of the rest of the system.

  2. Input Mode: Microphone vs. Media This is the most important setting for a clean mix:

Microphone Mode: Choose this for 3rd-party mics. The sound will pass through the Hub's Automixer, meaning the system will automatically prioritize the person speaking while lowering background noise.

Media Mode: Choose this for laptops, tablets, or music players. This mode bypasses the Automixer, ensuring your music or video audio isn't accidentally ducked or quieted by the system while it's playing.

FLEX as Outputs: Routing Sound OUT

When set to Output mode, FLEX ports use Channel Cloning to decide what sound to send out. Because these ports are additional outputs, they don't have their own complex "Mix Configuration" menus. Instead, they clone a mix you have already set up for a primary output. For example, you can tell FLEX 1 to clone the RCA mix.

How to Configure Cloning:

Once you set Channel Cloning to ENABLED for a specific port (like FLEX 1), you must choose a Cloning Source:

RCA (Left or Right): Clones the unbalanced mix typically used for room speakers.

USB (Left or Right): Clones the digital mix optimized for video conferencing, which includes the AutoLevel algorithm.

3-PIN (Left or Right): Clones the professional balanced mix, which includes the Feedback Cancellation algorithm.

Why would you need it?

Cloning allows you to send an identical, already-optimized mix to multiple places at once. For example, you can send your Video Call mix to both your computer via USB and a separate backup recorder via FLEX 1.

Note: All FLEX ports are in the same mode. You cannot set FLEX 1 as an Input and FLEX 2 as an Output simultaneously.

Factory / Default Settings

  • FLEX Mode: Set to OUTPUT by default.
  • Input Mode: Defaults to MEDIA.
  • Channel Cloning: Defaults to DISABLED.

Note: When disabled, FLEX outputs provide Direct unmixed audio (e.g., FLEX 1 will output only Mic 1).
