Can I adjust the gain level on the Hub?

The Catchbox Plus system has evolved to provide high audio quality without the need for manual gain adjustments. This improvement offers a more streamlined and efficient approach to sound management.

Our microphones have a wide dynamic range, capable of capturing a broad spectrum of voice levels. The Hub's built-in DSP automatically optimizes the audio signal, maintaining consistent quality across different speakers and environments. The system continuously monitors and adjusts input levels in real-time, ensuring optimal signal strength regardless of the speaker's volume or distance from the microphone.

The decision to remove the manual gain control feature was made to:

  • Ensure consistent, high-quality audio across various scenarios
  • Reduce the risk of audio issues caused by incorrect manual settings
  • Simplify user experience

Voice lift for in-room audio enhancement

While gain adjustment isn't available, the system offers a voice lift feature for in-room audio reinforcement. Voice lift allows adjusting the overall volume of the mixed audio outputs (RCA, 3-PIN) for in-room speakers.

It's important to note that the voice lift feature is not a replacement for the traditional gain control, but rather an improvement. While increasing gain would increase the microphone's sensitivity and potentially pick up more background noise, voice lift allows to adjust the volume of the already processed, mixed signal. This means you can increase the volume of quieter speakers without amplifying unwanted room noise. The wide dynamic range of the microphones allows for this increase in volume without distorting the audio, ensuring clear sound even when amplified.

When to use voice lift:

  • In larger spaces where additional amplification is needed
  • When connecting to external amplification systems
  • To balance audio levels between in-room and remote participants in hybrid setups

How to adjust voice lift:

  1. Access the Output Settings in the Hub's interface
  2. Select the desired mixed output (RCA, 3-PIN)
  3. Adjust the voice lift level as needed for your space

Note: Voice lift affects the overall mixed signal, not individual microphone sensitivity. It's designed specifically for in-room audio reinforcement.

Benefits of the current approach

  • The system maintains optimal audio levels and consistent audio quality without manual intervention.
  • No need to adjust settings for different speakers or environments making the setup process more simple.
  • Eliminates issues that could arise from incorrect gain settings.
  • Voice lift provides volume control when needed, and doesn't compromise audio quality.
